Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Center do?

  • The Center offers educational programs, conducts applied research in long term care, and fosters partnerships between aging service providers and researchers, particularly at UWM. We see ourselves on the cutting edge of long term care - asking the hard questions and finding innovative answers in the course of our conferences, workshops, educational materials, college classes, and research practices.

How is the Center related to the Endowed Chair of Applied Gerontology?

  • The Center director is on the advisor committee for the Endowed Chair, and the Endowed Chair is on the Center's Leadership Council. We collaborate with the Endowed Chair's research team as we do with other scholars on campus (and beyond).

Does the Center offer support services?

  • The Center provides educational offerings in the form of workshops, trainings, college classes, and conferences. We also conduct applied research in long term care. If you have an idea for a research project with your organization, we can meet with you to determine if it's something we might be able to collaborate on to write a grant. The resources we do have available for free are downloadable white papers and other educational tools on our website. See our resources page for more information.

My mother needs help finding services - where should I turn?

I'm interested in studying gerontology - what programs do you offer?

Do you have scholarships?

  • Yes! Through the generous support of the Helen Bader Foundation, students intending to take the Graduate Certificate in Applied Gerontology can apply for scholarships each spring.

How do I find your products?

Where are you located?

  • Our main office is in Enderis Hall, room 1164, on the UWM campus, on the historic East Side of Milwaukee. We've got a lovely view of Lake Michigan, which for those of you who don't know, you can't see across...We're also 90 minutes north of Chicago, and 90 minutes east of Madison.

What is your geographic focus?

  • Because we do applied research, we tend to focus where we can get to in a day's drive...but our collaborative partners span the country.
